Who should consider an electrical energy storage system?
Electrical energy storage is worthwhile for any PV system operator whose system is at least large enough to produce the annual amount of energy that is consumed in the house. An electrical energy storage system enables significantly higher self-consumption of the self-produced current and, if correctly dimensioned, self-sufficiency or self-sufficiency of 50 to 80 %. Being able to consume a large proportion of the current produced on your own roof makes investing in an electrical energy storage system profitable.
How large should the photovoltaic system be to ensure a profitable overall constellation?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to give a general answer to this question. However, it can be said that the photovoltaic system should be at least large enough to produce as much as the household consumes. You can use the Self-sustainability calculator by HTW Berlin, available in German to determine the amount consumed.

What are the dimensions of the FENECON storage systems?
As the FENECON product range of home, commercial and industrial-scale energy storage systems is broad, we refer to the respective data sheet for the exact dimensions of all storage systems, which can be found at docs.fenecon.de under the respective product category.
What does "on-grid" and "off-grid" mean?
The English word "grid" means "network" and refers to the public electricity grid.
"On-grid " describes the grid-parallel operation of an electrical energy storage system, a PV system or generators.
"Off-grid " describes operation without the grid, as in the event of a power failure or operation of an off-grid system.
What does "AC" and "DC" mean?
AC": Alternating current
A current that changes its strength and direction in a regular rhythm. The English description "alternating current" is abbreviated to "AC".
DC": Direct current
If the strength and direction of the current do not change, it is described as direct current. The English description "direct current" is abbreviated to "DC".
What does "SoC" mean?
"State of Charge", or "SoC" for short, describes the state of charge of the battery.
What does "SoH" mean?
"State of Health", or "SoH" for short, describes the health status of the battery.
What does "DoD" mean?
"Depth of Discharge", or "DoD" for short, describes the depth of discharge of the battery.
What requirements must the installer fulfill? Can the in-house electrician be commissioned to install the electrical energy storage system?
The installation must be carried out by a qualified electrician who has the necessary experience and training:
-
Setting up, switching on, switching off, disconnecting, earthing, short-circuiting and repairing circuits and devices.
-
Standard maintenance and use of protective devices in accordance with current safety standards.
-
First aid/emergency care.
-
Current knowledge of local regulations, standards and guidelines.
Where should the electrical energy storage system be installed? Is there any advice on this?
FENECON recommends that you install the electrical energy storage near the sub-distribution board. Your local installer can best advise you on this. Take into account the weight, the volume of the storage system and the ambient temperature.
Further information can be found in the instructions (section: Installation location) for the respective electrical energy storage system.
Does the electrical energy storage system require regular maintenance?
There are no specifications for FENECON electrical energy storage systems in this respect. However, we recommend that you have the electrical energy storage system checked by a qualified electrician every four years in the private sector and every two years in the commercial sector. The electrical energy storage system should be checked for correct functioning and any damage and the fans should be cleaned.
Is there any usable waste heat?
No, the waste heat generated by the electrical energy storage system is so low that unfortunately it cannot be used any further.
What is a single-phase and three-phase grid feed-in?
The German electricity grid has a three-phase structure. Small PV systems with an output of up to approx. 4.6 kW only feed into the grid on one phase, while larger PV systems feed in equally on all three phases. Most household devices only use one phase for operation. Exceptions are devices with high power, such as an electric stove or a circular saw.
What does "island system" or "stand-alone system" mean?
The system operator is not connected to any grid and is completely self-sufficient with current from its own generation. The current from his own system that he does not consume himself is not fed into a public grid or subsidized by the EEG.
What does "usable storage capacity" mean on the data sheets?
The usable storage capacity indicates the net amount of energy available in the battery.
The energy available for consumption results from the usable storage capacity, taking into account the efficiency.
What does the efficiency figure on the data sheets mean?
This is the efficiency of the battery inverter and indicates how much energy can be effectively used after the conversion from alternating current to direct current (or vice versa). It must be taken into account that the efficiency is not a static value.
How do I find a FENECON partner near me?
FENECON works with many different partners in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
You are welcome to ask your in-house electrician — or contact us directly.
In which countries can FENECON electrical energy storage systems be installed?
The installation of FENECON electrical energy storage systems is possible within the D-A-CH region and also in other countries on request.
Can the energy from a CHP, wind turbine, hydroelectric power plant or other AC-coupled producers also be used for electricity production?
Producers can be installed on the AC side for any FENECON electrical energy storage system. All producers can be retrofitted to a FENECON electrical energy storage system. Retrofitting is not possible for a few exceptions.
Recyclability: What happens to the batteries? Who takes them back? Who bears the costs?
The disposal of the rechargeable batteries is carried out independently of FENECON and is ensured by the contractual partner "Stiftung Gemeinsames Rücknahmesystem Batterien" (GRS). The customer does not incur any costs for disposal. Depending on the quantity of batteries, a collection service can be ordered or, in the case of small quantities of batteries, they can be handed in at the GRS collection points. As a rule, there is a collection point at every recycling center.
Can the battery be damaged if there is no energy available from the PV system and it is not charged for a longer period of time?
No, provided the electrical energy storage system is working properly, trickle charging is carried out regularly using energy from the public grid.
For which requirements does FENECON recommend storage systems?
Our electricity storage systems are used by domestic, commercial and industrial customers.
Home storage systems are generally used for Self-Consumption Optimization. As the feed-in remuneration from the EEG continues to fall, it is worthwhile consuming the PV current produced directly or buffering it in the electrical energy storage system instead of feeding it into the grid.
In trade and industry, our storage solutions are often used for Peak Shaving.
Can I expand FENECON power storage systems if I need more capacity or power?
Yes, this is always possible as our storage solutions have a modular structure. The maximum output is always limited by the inverter. You can find more detailed information on this on our website.
Can I retrofit an electrical energy storage system to my existing PV system? What do I have to consider?
Yes, this is always possible. Depending on the PV inverter used, it can be integrated into Online Monitoring either directly or via an additional meter. Direct integration is already possible with many devices from common manufacturers. In the case of a hybrid battery inverter, this can also be used to integrate the PV system. You can find more information on our website.
